Glenfinnan

The Monument - Herein lies the very tabernacle of the Bonny Prince Charlie culture, for it was at Loch Shiel, just where the monument now stands, that he first raised his standard on August 19th, 1745, at the outset of the ill-fated Jacobite Rebellion. The monument was built in 1815 by MacDonald of Glenaladale and is now in the hands of the National Trust for Scotland, who have an attractive visitor centre there.

Over the Glenfinnan Viaduct - Why not let the "train take the strain" and enjoy the 50 miles between Fort William and Mallaig from the comfort of a seat on The Jacobite, a special steam train which during the season travels through some of the most beautiful scenery in West Scotland. Booking is essential.
